Parasomnias
Parasomnias
Parasomnias are a classification of sleep disorders characterized by the regular occurrence of complex movements, vocalizations, and experiences, such as sleepwalking, talking during sleep, night terrors and the performance of activities that would normally only occur while awake. These undesirable physical events can occur at sleep onset, during sleep, and during arousals from sleep. Parasomnias can occur in adults and children and can affect the patient, the bed partner, or both. Household injury prevention is a high priority when a parasomnia is suspected, as the affected patient may pose a danger to themselves or others in the altered state of consciousness.
If you think that you or a member of your household may be suffering from a parasomnia, contact us to schedule an evaluation with a Sleep Specialist or ask your provider about a referral to Red River Sleep Center.
